Kelly's Thrifty Tips -

Photobucket

This is how I feel. Not really how things are though. I am just dramatic. :)

I apologize for not getting this posted at my usual time, but I have been kind of in non-stop mode. We are heading off to the Women of Faith conference today. I had to pack this morning, put laundry away, get my son set for school, and inform him of what he needs to do for tomorrow (as he will be heading off on his own to the bus). My husband will be home for backup, but as a mom, I worry. And as a mom, I will probably be calling or texting my son tomorrow to make sure he is okay. Ahhhh me...such is life. :)

For the past few weeks, I have kind of dabbled in prepping for Christmas. Last week, I talked about getting some seasonal jobs. This week I thought it would be a good idea to bring up one of my favorite Christmas links. Organizing Your Way has a free Christmas Planning ebook as well as some fabulous printable planning sheets that can really take the edge off of your Christmas planning. There is a To-Do list, a Christmas Card List, a Shopping List, Budget Planner, Baking Planner and more. I mentioned this fabulous resource last year, and I wanted to give you the heads up again. All of these will really help you get it together for Christmas. I highly recommend checking these out. The holidays go so much more smoothly when we take a little time to just plan.

Confidence in the Faith

Confidence in the Faith

Hebrews 10:35-36

35So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

*How is Your Faith doing in Everyday Life

The true test of a person’s spiritual life and character is not what he does in the extraordinary moments of life, but what he does during the ordinary times when there is nothing tremendous or exciting happening. A person’s worth is revealed in his attitude toward the ordinary things of life when he is not under the spotlight (seeJohn 1:35-37 and John 3:30).

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

Where does Faith come from??

God grants us true faith by His Spirit at regeneration (when we are "born again")

"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." Galatians 2:20

"I count all things but loss for the Excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death." Philippians 3:8-10

"Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. " Psalm 2:12

After we become a Christian we need to remember the consequences of turning our eyes back to the world and doubting our faith!

Because of the warning contained within Hebrews 10:35-39, chapter 11 places the virtue of faith in direct contrast to the sin of unbelief by exposing what unbelief caused to occur. The Israelites drew back in fear rather than trusting God and boldly going forward. Thus, the main point of the epistle of Hebrews is that they will be destroyed who, by failing to put their trust in the living God, shrink back from this Christian war we have been called to fight, whereas those who believe will be saved. Maybe these never really believed in the first place. It doesn’t mean we won’t feel weak in our faith. He uses our weakness to remind us that we need Him!

He uses our weaknesses to prove His strength & establish our faith:

"And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God." 1 Corinthians 2:1-5

"...we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead..." 2 Corinthians 1:8-9

"Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, 'Why could we not cast it out?'

So Jesus said to them, 'Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:19-20

Apart from God's moral law, we wouldn't see our sin and weakness

"...the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor." Galatians 3:24-25

"'Woe to the rebellious children,' says the Lord,
'Who take counsel, but not of Me,
And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit,'"
Isaiah 30:1

"Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength,
Whose heart departs from the Lord.
For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes,
But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness....
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought....
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?
I, the Lord, search the heart; I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings."
Jeremiah 17:5-10

Preaching builds faith among those who will believe

"And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!' But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, 'Lord, who has

believed our report?' So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:14-17

"For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God." 1 Corinthians 1:22-24

"He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy. And they glorified God in me." Galatians1:23-24

"Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, 'In you all the nations shall be blessed.' So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham." Galatians 3:7-9

True wisdom or victory comes through genuine faith:

"By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible." Hebrews 11:3

"...whatever is not from faith is sin." Romans 14:23

"And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight, if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard..." Colossians 1:21-23

The reality here is that we have to stay in contact with Our Lord and Savior. To be one with Him means that we seek to walk to the beat of His drum, not ours.

*It is a painful business to get through into the stride of God, it means getting your second wind spiritually. In learning to walk with God there is always the difficulty of getting into His stride; but when we have got into it, the only characteristic that manifests itself is the life of God. The individual person is merged into a personal union with God, and the stride and the power of God alone are manifested.

It is difficult to get into stride with God, because when we start walking with Him we find that His pace has surpassed us before we have taken three steps. He has different ways of doing things, and we have to be trained and disciplined into His ways. It was said of Jesus - "He shall not fail nor be discouraged," because He never worked from His own individual standpoint but always from the standpoint of His Father, and we have to learn to do the same. Spiritual truth is learned by atmosphere, not by intellectual reasoning. God's Spirit alters the atmosphere of our way of looking at things, and things begin to be possible which never were possible before. Getting into the stride of God means nothing less than union with Himself. It takes a long time to get there, but keep at it. Don't give in because the pain is bad just now, get on with it, and before long you will find you have a new vision and a new purpose.

"Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world." John 4:41-42

"For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know Whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day." 2 Timothy 1:11-12

Kelly's Thrifty Tips - Looking for Seasonal Work?

Photobucket

Now is the perfect time to start looking for some seasonal work. Some people use seasonal work to make a little extra money for the holidays, but it can also be a good way to get your foot in the door.

Places to look:

The mall. Retail stores are always a good place to start looking, and no time is better than now. Many stores begin hiring around October in order to get that needed extra staff for the upcoming Christmas season. Don't just think about clothing and gift stores either. There are lots of purchases made in electronics retail locations and craft stores as well.

Restaurants are often busier around the holidays, especially establishments in and around the mall. So be sure to give those a check as well.

Courier companies like FedEx, DHL and UPS also often hire people temporarily. They have jobs like package handlers, drivers, dock workers and mechanics.

You can also find lots of jobs through temporary agencies. I did all kinds of temp work one holiday season from working through a temp agency.

Photo studios have a higher influx of pictures taken in the holidays so don't forget to check with these places.

Another great place to look is with your seasonal recreational areas. You might find something good at Arizona Snow Bowl perhaps.

Cleaning services. With busy work schedules, holiday planning and shopping. There will be more opportunities with cleaning services.

Don't forget to check with catering companies, restaurants that cater, hotels and restaurants that do banquets to take advantage of business Christmas parties.

How to find those seasonal jobs.

1 - Go directly to the source. When at the mall, check in with the various stores and food court shops. Don't just rely on signs saying that they are hiring. Ask at the service desks. Talk to the employees. Be friendly.

2 - Check online.

snagajob.com (lists seasonal and hourly jobs and has great job hunting tips)

Your area newspaper will usually have online listings. In fact that is how I found my job.

summerjobs.com (type in seasonal in the search box)

3 - Ask around. Now this one is kind of obvious, but seriously take advantage of your network. Ask friends and family if they know of any places that are hiring seasonally.

Now onto some freebies and deals.

Saturday, September 25th is the 6th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day. You can print out a ticket (one per household) that will enable you and a guest to have free admission. You must have the ticket in order to get in. Follow the link below for more information.

Confessing Christ Before Men

Confessing Christ before men

Praise and Glory to Our Lord Jesus Christ for all the faithful and bold young people that identified with Jesus this morning by attending the See You at the Pole Event at their school!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matthew 10:32-33

32"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

CHRIST'S ULTIMATE aim is to secure peace for our sin-stricken race, and the proclamation of the tidings of peace is spreading throughout the world. We must not falter in our testimony, or hide in our heart the truth which has been committed to us, because it may bring us to abuse and suffering. Being a Christian is not easy. Everyone who comes face to face with Christ must do one of two things concerning Him. They must either confess Him or deny Him. There is no neutral ground. It is foolish to say "I do not confess Him, but neither do I deny Him". By not confessing Him when we should is to deny Him.

Matt 12:30 says, "He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth abroad".

What does it mean to confess Him before others?

It means to identify, announce, and advertise ourselves with Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord by openly acknowledging by life and lip. Notice the object of our confession: We do not confess our church affiliation. We are to confess the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

In Acts 1:8, the resurrected Lord said," Ye shall be witnesses unto me". We do not witness about, "the One upstairs", or "Providence", or any other scriptural name given some deity. We are to confess The LORD JESUS CHRIST.

There Are Five Reasons Believers Should Confess Christ Openly!

  1. The After-Salvation Plan Includes It. (Rom 10:8-10)
  2. The Word of God Assumes It. (Psalms.107:2)
  3. The Lord Of The Harvest Expects It. (Matt 28:19)
  4. The Day of Judgment Requires It. (2 Cor 5:10 )
  5. The Sacrifice of Calvary Demands It. (Heb 2:11)

When our Lord died for us, He died openly. He was not ashamed of His act for us. He suffered the great humiliation for us, for all to see.

Ways Believers Confess Him Openly

1. Believers Should Start the Christian Life by Open Confession.

This is important, an open public confession will strengthen their faith. Look again at the words of Rom.10:9-10.

Rom 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Consider the experience of the healed man.
Mark 5:19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

Jesus told him to OPENLY CONFESS and HE DID.
Mark 5:20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

2. Every Believer Should Discretely And Constantly Confess Christ Openly Before Others By Mouth.

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek

3. Every Believer Should Confess Christ Before Others By Baptism

Baptism is not a denominational matter. It is a Scriptural matter. In Acts they first believed and then confessed Christ by water baptism.Act.2:37-41 // 9:17-18 //10:44-48.

Acts 2:37-41 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one

of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Acts 9:17-18 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

Acts 10:44-48 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

4. Every Believer Should Confess Christ By A Godly Life

We make Him known by what we are and what we do. Our lives reflect on Him. Our reaction to the trials, and sufferings are an opportunity to confess our faith in Him.

Romans 6:13 “……..present your members as instruments of righteousness to God.”

5. Every Believer Should Confess Christ By Church Affiliation

Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

A story is told of a great surgeon who performed a delicate and skillful operation on a patient who had been thought incurable. Afterward the patient told the surgeon, "As long as I have a tongue in my mouth folks shall hear of you and what you have done for me". When a believer confesses Christ before others there is a deep indescribable joy within that makes known a love for Him.

Our personal testimony is invaluable. The woman of Samaria brought the entire city to the feet of Jesus by her confession. Many of the Samaritans believed on Him for the saying of the woman, which testified, "He told me all that ever I did." That was the beginning of a great revival.

Fear will always be the biggest reason we avoid acknowledging Christ in public. Yet every man and woman of God in the Bible experienced a time where they overcame their fear by drawing on the Holy Spirit for strength and boldness. If this is your heart felt desire, pray right now to God to give you the boldness and courage to stand firm for Him, then set back and watch our Faithful Lord change your attitude and deliver on your request!

Purpose For Our Difficulties

Purpose For Our Difficulties

. . . that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us . . . —John 17:21

*If you are going through a time of isolation, seemingly all alone, read John 17 . It will explain exactly why you are where you are— because Jesus has prayed that you “may be one” with the Father as He is. Are you helping God to answer that prayer, or do you have some other goal for your life? Since you became a disciple, you cannot be as independent as you used to be. God reveals in John 17 that His purpose is not just to answer our prayers, but that through prayer we might come to discern His mind. Yet there is one prayer which God must answer, and that is the prayer of Jesus— “. . . that they may be one just as We are one . . .” (John 17:22). Are we as close to Jesus Christ as that?

God is not concerned about our plans; He doesn’t ask, “Do you want to go through this loss of a loved one, this difficulty, or this defeat?” No, He allows these things for His own purpose. So the things we are going through are either making us sweeter, better, nobler men and women or they are making us more critical and fault-finding and more insistent on our own way. So how can we understand God’s purpose for these adversities and trials? By knowing and believing that God uses everything in our lives to make us One with Christ as He is One with the Heavenly Father, just as Jesus prayed. If we will pray, regarding our own lives, “Your will be done” (Matthew 26:42), then we will be encouraged and comforted by John 17, knowing that our Father is working according to His own wisdom, accomplishing what is best, both for us and His Kingdom. Besides He will deliver us from our pain and anguish according to His Will and His Timing.

"He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. " Psalm 40:2

Exercise your faith by speaking the Word of God over your life. Speaking God’s Word is very powerful and if exercised in Faith will change our attitude and outlook toward our circumstances

It is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken."With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak. 2 Corinthians 4:13

This passage is teaching us to incorporate power of confession in our prayer and exercising our Faith in God and His Word. Sometimes we think prayer is a long list of our needs, but mature praying is filled with God’s word speaking it to your situation. There is only one way to "return God’s Word unto Him" and that is by CONFESSING IT AS BEING PRESENT TENSE TRUTH IN YOUR LIFE!

Remember:
• God’s Word is full of power; it will not return to Him empty.
• God’s Word will accomplish His desires and purposes.
• God’s Word has irresistible power!

The things that happen to us either make us evil, or they make us more saintly, depending entirely on the level of intimacy of our relationship with God and our obedience to His Word. God’s desire is that His Words will accomplish something in your life and He will never stop ‘till you experience the miraculous power of His Holy Word! When we understand God’s purpose, we will not become small-minded and cynical. Jesus prayed nothing less for us than absolute oneness with Himself, just as He is one with the Father. Some of us are far from this oneness; yet God will not leave us alone until we are one with Him— because Jesus prayed, “. . . that they all may be one . . . .” May we pray as He did,
Father, Your will be done” Matthew 26:42
